Meet Richard
The story
Richard has been a friend of the Smith family for over 20 years, sharing a love of scuba diving with Pete Foster-Smith throughout that time.
He was a bit of a late starter when it came to motorbikes, only riding for the last ten years. He loves nothing more than a steady ride out on a summer's evening, finished off with a well-earned chippy tea!
Always willing to lend a hand, Richard is keen to learn as much as he can about fixing, repairing and maintaining the bikes. He's a huge part of Ted's racing journey, taking on the roles of sponsor, taxi driver and dedicated pit crew — last season he was right there alongside Ted, crewing for him throughout the Junior Talent Cup.
Away from the racetrack, Richard's biggest hobby is spending time with his family — his wife, Katrina, and their other two children, Winnie (12) and Frank (10).
And if Richard does make it onto the grid himself this season, one thing's for sure: he's worked hard to earn the nickname “Captain Slow” and he's more than happy to keep it! Whether he's supporting Ted from the pit wall or taking things at his own steady pace, Richard is an invaluable part of the team.
